Fort Of Jhansi Near of Belatal only 100KM.



Built in 1613, the Fort of Jhansi was constructed by Raja Bir Singh Judao of Orchha. This fort was constructed on top of a rocky hill and the entire city of Jhansi is built around it.

In ancient times, the wall of the fort used to surround the entire city of Jhansi and had ten gates. Many of the gates have disappeared with time, but some still stand and the places near the gates are still popular by the names of the gates. The names of some of the gates are Unnao Gate, Khandero Gate, Sagar Gate, Datia Darwaza, Chand Gate, Jharna Gate, Laxmi Gate, Sainyar Gate and Orchha Gate.

This fort was one of the main centres of the Sepoy Mutiny of 1857. Below the walls of the fort is a depiction in the form of diorama, the bloody battle in which Rani of Jhansi gave her life to save her people from the hands of the British.

The fort has the Karak Bijli tank located within it along with a museum that offers good collections of artefacts and sculpture that speak of the bygone era of Bundelkhand.

Situated in the Jhansi Fort, the Jhansi Museum is a prominent attraction. The museum displays the rich history of the city as well as the entire region of Bundelkhand.

The museum’s collection speaks of the times and lives of the Chandela rulers. It houses some of the dresses, weapons, photographs and statues of the Chandela Dynasty. Besides, there is a picture gallery also that showcases the times of the Gupta Kings only. Also showcased are bronze statues, terracotta structures, paintings, manuscripts and coins.

A separate gallery dedicated to weapons also displays a good collection of arsenals and weaponry of the British rulers, Chandelas and Bundelas. The museum also has a collection of weapons used by the Rani of Jhansi during the Sepoy Mutiny of 1857.

The Queen's Palace or Rani Mahal was constructed by Raghunath II Newalkar. This erstwhile home of the Rani of Jhansi has now been converted into a museum, which displays a whole lot of memory of Rani Lakshmi Bai as well as archaeological evidences of the era belonging to 9th to 12th century that were discovered in recent times.

The palace has an open courtyard with arched chambers around it that is completely different from the typical Bundelkhand architecture. The palace was one of the main centres of the Great Sepoy Mutiny of 1857. The Rani Mahal is decorated with colourful paintings. The palace also has a Durbar Hall located in the second floor that has a genuine painted wood-panelled ceiling.

This beautiful temple situated at the bank of beautiful laxmi tal. This temple was made before laxmi bai era and locals informed us that even laxmi bai use to come and worship at this temple. Near to the temple, there is also colony of people effected from leprosy disease, we also visited there and distributed Prasad and fruits to them.

Located some 24 km from the city of Jhansi, Barua Sagar is a municipal board and city in the district of Jhansi which is famous for the Barua Sagar Lake. The place is also famous for being the battleground of the Bundelas and the Marathas in 1744 AD. Situated on the bank of River Betwa, the region offers many attractions like the fort of Jarai-ka-Math and other temples.

Is situated right at the Jhansi fort. This temple is famous because this is the place where Rani Laxmi Bai got married to Gangadhar Rao. It attracts several tourists who ever visit the fort. The main varanda/ hall is pretty big and the beautiful ganesh idol is made up of marble. A must visit temple.

Parichha is a dam built some 25 km away from Jhansi on the Betwa River. The reservoir of the dam is perfect for water sports. Located in Jhansi District, on the Jhansi-Kanpur Highway, the town of Parichha has a 640 MW coal based power station too. The reservoir created by Parichha Dam extends up to Notghat Bridge around 34 km from Jhansi. Boating is a popular activity in this lake.

The town of Chirgaon is located some 30 km from Jhansi, on the banks of Betwa River. The town is very popular for Maithili Sharan Gupt, the National Poet who hailed from Chirgaon.

This municipal board and city of Jhansi district has a Krishi Utpadan Mandi and the city is a good example of the earlier structure of Indian cities. There are three ‘darwajas’ or gates and a ‘quila’ or fort, located in the centre of the town.

The town also has community grounds and ponds and is an example of communal harmony with people of different religions living together. There is a Shiva-Sai Temple here and is a popular attraction.

Chirgaon was also active during the freedom struggle of India as hundreds of young men of the region joined the movement. Many of the young generation still pursue the art of poetry here.

St. Jude’s Shrine is a very popular shrine, mainly for Catholic Christians and has the bone of St. Jude buried in its foundation. Devotees gather from far off places, especially on 28th October, on the occasion of St Jude's feast day, every year.

The Feast day is celebrated with a week-long fair and procession on the last day. The fair is attended by people of different religions. The devotion to St. Jude Thaddaeus was started in Jhansi by the late Bishop F. X. Fenech.
